Bye Wordpress, hello Notablog

While browsing Hacker News one day, I came across Alexander Wangโ€™s post about drawing S-curved arrows between boxes. The post itself was fascinating โ€” it was a peek behind the curtains of techniques similar to whatโ€™s at work on the tools I regularly use like Excalidraw and Whimsical โ€” but what really caught my eye was how much Alexanderโ€™s blog looked like Notion.

Turns out, his blog was using Notablog: a static site generator that he built, which uses Notion as its data source.

It took me all of 15 minutes to configure Notablog, publish Github pages, connect my custom domain, and finally get this new blog up and running.

Iโ€™ve previously used hosted Wordpress (via Hostinger), but as powerful as Wordpress is (and trust me โ€” I know โ€” Iโ€™ve spent more than a decade buildings sites on it) itโ€™s just too much for what I need: a beautiful writing experience with easy publishing.

I love writing on Notion, and Iโ€™ve toyed with the idea of using a static site generator for my personal site in the past, and Iโ€™ve finally committed to it. And Iโ€™ve gotta say, itโ€™s so much fun and looks great.
